Yet more award news…

Yet more award news…

Yes, another blog post about yet another award that my book has won.  I don’t want to beat a dead horse on this subject, however I am very excited by this award in particular since it is not just for books, but for all types of parenting gear, from cribs to toys and everything in between.  The award I am speaking of is the NAPPA or National Parenting Publications Awards.  To quote what NAPPA says on their website:

“NAPPA – the National Parenting Publications Awards – is the ‘go-to’ source for parents and professionals seeking the best children’s products (toys, games, books, music, DVDs, software, videogames, Web sites and storytelling CDs and audiobooks) and resources for parents (books, DVDs, maternity and baby gear, accessories and more).

The NAPPA recognition is far more than simply a “good-enough” seal of approval. It signifies that the winning product has been rigorously evaluated against stringent criteria and that it stands out among hundreds of other products from all around the world. Only the best products win the prestigious NAPPA recognition.

NAPPA’s team of independent expert judges and family testers (parents and kids) select the most entertaining, appealing, safe, educational, age-appropriate and enduring products as NAPPA Gold and Honors winners.

The most comprehensive awards program of its kind, NAPPA holds two distinct competitions each year:

•  NAPPA Children’s Products competition

•  NAPPA Parenting Resources competition
As NAPPA enters its 20th year serving families, the NAPPA seal has come to symbolize the innovation, usefulness and high quality that parents trust.  NAPPA helps parents make the best choices for their families.”

NAPPA Honors Award sealMy book placed in the HONORS level (you can view it here) and the judges (one of whom is an IBCLC) stated that it is a one-of-a-kind book that has information not collected elsewhere, “There are so many special issues and considerations that military mothers encounter that are not addressed in more typical breastfeeding books.”  It was noted that the book is accurate, well-referenced and packed with information as well as case studies and photos showing diverse military mothers and babies.  What I liked best about the review is that the book was chosen as a ‘shout-out’ to all the military mothers who are serving in the armed forces that need information and support.

That’s what I’ve been saying all along!  I needed support 15 years ago when I was breastfeeding on active duty, and unfortunately that support is still needed today, which is why I wrote the book.  I want to provide the information and support that new military mothers need to be successful, plain and simple.  I am not in this to make money (trust me, I have spent 10x what I have made in profit on marketing and publicity fees alone).  What I am here to do is provide a resource that until now has been sorely lacking.  I will do my best to continue to provide that information and support to the best of my ability.  What is nice about winning these awards is that it boosts my confidence, validates my feeling that this is a much-needed resource and hopefully gets my book and information in front of a wider audience.  So I ask you, as my readers, to keep spreading the word too and indulge me a little when I want to shout from the rooftops that I won yet another award!
